Wine cooler displays E6; interior fan may not run or may run erratically; temperature may be uneven inside the cabinet.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working near the fan. Fan blades can start unexpectedly and cause injury.
Steps to troubleshoot E6:
- Confirm fan operation: With the door closed (or door switch held closed) and the unit calling for cooling, listen for the evaporator fan. If silent or intermittent, proceed.
- Access the evaporator fan: Remove interior shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator coil and fan assembly.
- Inspect for obstructions: Check for ice buildup around the fan, loose wiring, or foreign objects contacting the blades. Clear any obstructions carefully.
- Spin the fan by hand: With power still disconnected, gently spin the fan blade. It should rotate freely without grinding or binding. Stiff or seized movement indicates a bad motor.
- Check wiring and connector: Follow the fan wires to their connector and to the control board. Ensure all connections are tight and wires are not pinched or cut.
- Test the fan motor: If you have a multimeter, measure resistance across the fan motor leads. An open circuit suggests a failed motor. On DC fans, verify correct voltage is supplied from the control board when the unit is running (this test should be done carefully with power applied and only if you are comfortable working with live circuits).
- Replace the fan motor if defective: Remove the mounting screws, disconnect the wiring, and install a new NewAir evaporator fan motor assembly. Transfer the fan blade if it is not included with the new motor.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the interior panel and shelves, restore power, and verify that the fan runs smoothly and the E6 code clears.
Note: If the fan tests good but does not receive power, the main control board may be at fault and should be evaluated by a technician.
