Display shows H1 or a high-temperature alarm; interior temperature is much warmer than the setpoint.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before cleaning coils or accessing the rear compartment. Coils and metal edges can be sharp.
Steps to address H1 / high temperature alarm:
- Check door seal and usage: Ensure the door is closing fully and the gasket is not torn or warped. Avoid frequent door openings and overloading the cabinet.
- Verify installation: Confirm that the cooler has adequate clearance around the sides, back, and top for ventilation. Do not enclose it tightly in cabinetry unless it is a built-in model with front ventilation.
- Clean condenser coils: Remove the rear lower panel to access the condenser coil. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the coil and surrounding area.
- Check condenser fan operation: With the panel removed and the unit plugged in, observe the condenser fan (near the compressor). It should run whenever the compressor is running. If it does not spin or is noisy, unplug the unit and inspect for obstructions or a failed motor.
- Replace condenser fan if needed: If the fan is seized or not running with proper voltage, install a new NewAir condenser fan motor assembly.
- Monitor cooling: After cleaning and any fan replacement, reassemble the rear panel, restore power, and allow 12–24 hours for the temperature to stabilize. The H1 alarm should clear once the interior cools.
Important: If the compressor runs continuously, the condenser is clean, and the fan operates but the unit still cannot reach temperature, there may be a sealed system issue (refrigerant leak or restriction). Sealed system repairs require EPA-certified service and should not be attempted by homeowners.
