Wine cooler cycles on and off rapidly; compressor starts and stops every few minutes without reaching stable temperature.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing the compressor compartment. Components can be hot.
Steps to reduce short cycling:
- Improve ventilation: Ensure at least 2–3 inches of clearance around the cooler and that vents are not blocked. For built-in models, confirm the front grille is unobstructed.
- Clean condenser: Remove the rear lower panel and clean dust from the condenser coil and fan area.
- Inspect start relay and overload: Remove the compressor terminal cover and check the relay/overload assembly for burn marks or loose connections.
- Replace relay/overload if suspect: Install a new NewAir compressor start relay and overload protector if the existing parts show signs of overheating or test out of spec.
- Monitor operation: Reassemble, restore power, and observe the compressor. It should run for longer, steady cycles rather than rapid on/off.
Note: If short cycling continues with a cool, well-ventilated compressor and new relay/overload, the main control board may be malfunctioning and should be replaced by a technician.
