E06
Heater shows E06 and will not start; sometimes appears intermittently with temperature fluctuations.
Inlet Temperature Sensor Fault
E07
Display shows E07; heater may start and then shut down quickly, or may not start at all.
Flame Loss During Operation
E08
Heater displays E08 and refuses to start; may be accompanied by no fan or pump signal.
Internal Control Board Fault / EEPROM Error
E09
Heater shows E09; unit may start but then shuts down with an internal communication error.
Communication Error Between Display and Main Board
E10
Heater displays E10 and will not fire; often associated with external control or thermostat issues.
External Control / Thermostat Input Fault
E11
Heater shows E11; fan may run but ignition does not proceed.
Gas Valve Circuit Fault
E12
Heater displays E12; may be associated with very low ambient temperatures or sensor wiring issues.
Ambient / Frost Protection Sensor Fault
E13
Heater shows E13 and shuts down; may occur after long run times or in hot equipment rooms.
Flue Gas Temperature Too High
E14
Heater displays E14; unit may not respond to keypad inputs or may behave erratically.
Keypad / User Interface Fault
E15
Heater shows E15 and will not start; often associated with internal safety chain issues.
Safety Circuit Open (Limit Chain / Flow / Pressure)
Symptom
Heater cabinet shows signs of corrosion, especially near the base and around plumbing connections.
Corrosion / Environmental Damage
Symptom
Heater display is on but shows no temperature or only dashes; heater does not fire.
Sensor Not Detected / Open Circuit
Symptom
Heater display shows erratic or jumping temperature readings while water temperature is stable.
Unstable Temperature Sensing
Symptom
Heater emits a strong gas or combustion smell around the unit during operation.
Gas Leak or Incomplete Combustion
Symptom
Heater fan (combustion blower) runs continuously even when there is no call for heat.
Stuck Fan Relay or Control Logic Fault
Symptom
Heater frequently locks out and must be manually reset at the control panel.
Repeated Lockouts / Nuisance Trips
Symptom
Heater ignites but produces excessive soot on the flue terminal or heater casing.
Sooting / Rich Combustion
Symptom
Heater makes loud banging or knocking noises during operation.
Kettling / Boiling in Heat Exchanger
Symptom
Heater operates but causes noticeable vibration and rattling noises in the cabinet.
Mechanical Vibration / Loose Components
Symptom
Heater runs but pool water does not reach set temperature; very slow heating performance.
Insufficient Heat Output / Undersized or Fouled Heat Exchanger
Symptom
Heater shuts down during heavy rain or after being sprayed by irrigation.
Moisture Ingress / Water in Controls
Symptom
Heater shuts down when pump speed is reduced on a variable-speed pump.
Flow-Related Shutdown with Variable-Speed Pump
Symptom
Heater starts and stops frequently with short cycles; water temperature overshoots or undershoots setpoint.
Short Cycling / Poor Temperature Control
Symptom
Heater trips the electrical breaker when it attempts to start.
Electrical Short / Overcurrent
Symptom
Heater will not fire when controlled by pool automation, but works in manual mode.
Integration / Control Signal Issue
Symptom
Heater will not start at all; display is completely blank and unresponsive.
No Power to Heater / Dead Control
Symptom
Heater's flue terminal shows white staining and excessive condensate dripping.
Condensation / Low Flue Gas Temperature
Symptom
Heater's internal circulation (on models with built-in pump) is noisy or fails to move water.
Internal Circulation Pump Failure
Symptom
Heater's pilot (on standing-pilot models) will not stay lit.
Pilot Flame / Thermocouple Failure
Symptom
Visible water leaking from the bottom of the Pahlen heater cabinet.
Internal Water Leak / Heat Exchanger or Manifold Leak
