E1
Control panel displays E1 and the heating element does not turn on or only briefly warms before shutting off.
Cabinet Temperature Sensor (NTC) Open Circuit
E2
Display shows E2 and the smoker overheats or shuts down shortly after starting, sometimes with unusually high internal temperature readings.
Cabinet Temperature Sensor (NTC) Short Circuit or Out-of-Range Reading
E3
Control panel shows E3 and the smoker will not heat, or the display temperature does not change from ambient.
Heating Element Circuit Fault (Open Element or Relay Failure)
E4
Display shows E4 and the smoker may shut down or refuse to start, often after extended high-temperature use.
High-Limit Overtemperature Trip or High-Limit Thermostat Fault
E5
Control panel shows E5 and the smoker will not start the cooking cycle, sometimes accompanied by erratic temperature display.
Control Board Internal Fault or Power Supply Error
E6
Display shows E6 and the smoker may start but then shut off unexpectedly, or the timer will not count down correctly.
Control Panel Keypad or Communication Error
E7
Display shows E7 and the smoker will not maintain set temperature, often fluctuating widely or shutting down.
Ambient or Secondary Temperature Sensor Fault (if equipped)
E8
Display shows E8 and the smoker does not respond to temperature or time adjustments, or the display is frozen.
Microcontroller Lockup or Firmware Error
E9
Display shows E9 and the smoker will not power on fully, sometimes with dim or flickering display.
Low Line Voltage or Internal Power Supply Undervoltage
H1
Display shows H1 or 'HI' and the smoker indicates over-temperature, often shutting off the heating element.
Overtemperature Condition Detected by Control
LO
Display shows LO or 'Low' and the smoker will not reach the set temperature, often staying near ambient.
Low Temperature Condition / Inadequate Heating
Symptom
Condensation and brown liquid drip from the door or seams during cooking.
Grease and Moisture Drainage Issue
Symptom
Control panel lights up but buttons do not respond or only some keys work intermittently.
Keypad / Button Failure
Symptom
Display is blank or very dim, but the smoker may still heat when turned on by feel or external switch.
Display Backlight or Display Power Failure
Symptom
Excessive smoke leaks from around the door and seams, making it hard to maintain temperature.
Cabinet Leakage / Poor Sealing
Symptom
GFCI outlet trips occasionally when the smoker is used outdoors in damp conditions.
Moisture-Related Ground Fault Sensitivity
Symptom
Interior light (if equipped) does not turn on, though the smoker otherwise works normally.
Cabinet Light Failure
Symptom
Paint or coating peeling on the exterior or around the door frame.
Finish Degradation from Heat or Moisture
Symptom
Rust forming inside the smoker cabinet, on racks, or on the door.
Corrosion of Interior Surfaces
Symptom
Smoker cabinet exterior becomes excessively hot to the touch during normal operation.
Insulation or Heat Shield Degradation
Symptom
Smoker does not power on at all; no lights or display when plugged in and power button pressed.
No Power / Dead Unit
Symptom
Smoker door does not seal properly; smoke and heat escape around the edges.
Door Seal / Hinge Misalignment
Symptom
Smoker heats but cannot reach or maintain set temperature; it stalls well below the target even after long preheat.
Insufficient Heating Capacity / Heat Loss
Symptom
Smoker overheats beyond the set temperature; food cooks too fast or burns even at low settings.
Runaway Heating / Temperature Overshoot
Symptom
Smoker powers on but will not heat; display and timer work but the cabinet remains cold.
Heating Element Not Energizing
Symptom
Smoker produces a harsh, bitter smoke flavor and heavy creosote buildup inside the cabinet.
Incomplete Combustion / Poor Ventilation
Symptom
Smoker shuts off mid-cook; display goes dark and then may come back on after cooling.
Thermal Cutout or Power Interruption During Operation
Symptom
Smoker takes an unusually long time to preheat to the desired temperature.
Slow Preheat / Reduced Heating Efficiency
Symptom
Smoker trips the household circuit breaker or GFCI as soon as it is turned on or when heating starts.
Electrical Short or Ground Fault
Symptom
Strong burning plastic or electrical smell when the smoker is operating.
Overheating Electrical Component or Melting Insulation
Symptom
Temperature display jumps erratically or fluctuates rapidly without actual temperature changes.
Erratic Temperature Sensing
Symptom
Timer does not count down correctly or resets during cooking.
Timer Function / Control Logic Fault
Symptom
Unusual buzzing, humming, or rattling noise from the smoker during operation.
Mechanical Vibration or Loose Component
Symptom
Very little smoke production even when wood chips are loaded; food lacks smoky flavor.
Insufficient Wood Chip Combustion
Symptom
Water pan runs dry quickly or is difficult to keep filled during long cooks.
Water Pan Capacity / Placement Issue
Symptom
Wood chips ignite and burn too quickly, causing flare-ups and very thick smoke.
Excessive Wood Chip Combustion
