Under-Voltage Supply Condition
Symptom
Pump basket fills with air and large bubbles are visible under the clear lid while running.
Suction-Side Air Leak
Symptom
Pump emits a burning smell or visible smoke while running.
Motor Winding or Insulation Failure
Symptom
Pump housing or lid area sprays or drips water from the clear lid.
Pump Lid Seal Leak
Symptom
Pump hums but does not start; may trip breaker after a few seconds.
Failed Start Capacitor or Seized Motor
Symptom
Pump is running but there is no water movement and the pump basket does not fill with water.
Loss of Prime / Air Lock
Symptom
Pump is unusually loud with a low rumbling or cavitation sound, especially at higher speeds.
Cavitation Due to Inlet Restriction
Symptom
Pump is very old and frequently needs priming, leaks, or trips breakers.
End-of-Life Pump Assembly
Symptom
Pump leaks at the union connections on suction or discharge side.
Union Seal Leak
Symptom
Pump leaks water between the pump housing and the motor mounting plate.
Mechanical Shaft Seal Failure
Symptom
Pump motor housing is excessively hot to the touch even though it is running normally.
Overheating Motor Under Load
Symptom
Pump motor runs but impeller does not turn (no water movement).
Broken Impeller or Sheared Shaft Connection
Symptom
Pump runs but filter pressure is very high and return flow is weak.
System Over-Pressure Due to Restriction
Symptom
Pump runs but makes loud grinding or screeching noise from motor end.
Motor Bearing Failure
Symptom
Pump runs but spa does not spill over or spa jets are weak when spa mode is selected.
Incorrect Valve Position or Bypass
Symptom
Pump runs but there is air and bubbles coming out of pool returns.
Air Entrained in Return Line
Symptom
Pump runs but water flow is weak and filter pressure is low.
Impeller Wear or Partial Blockage
Symptom
Pump trips the circuit breaker immediately or within a few seconds of starting.
Electrical Short or Locked Rotor
Symptom
Pump turns on and off rapidly (short cycling) without user input.
Control or Power Interruption Cycling
Symptom
Pump will not stay primed when switching between pool and spa modes.
Valve Positioning and Air Ingress Issue
Symptom
Pump will not turn on at scheduled times but can be started manually.
Timer or Automation Scheduling Fault
Symptom
Strong vibration and rattling noise from pump and plumbing when running.
