E01
Control panel powers on but unit will not start a regeneration cycle; pressing REGEN does nothing.
Regeneration Start Inhibit / Control Lock Fault
E02
Display shows E02 and regeneration stops shortly after starting the cycle.
Motor / Drive Fault
E03
Display shows E03 and the valve remains in one position; water flow may stop or stay in bypass.
Position Switch / Encoder Fault
E04
Display shows E04 and the unit fails to complete regeneration; may stay in backwash or brine draw indefinitely.
Cycle Timeout / Stalled Regeneration
E05
Display shows E05 and the time-of-day clock resets or drifts; programmed settings may be lost.
Power / Memory Fault
E06
Display shows E06 and the unit will not recognize flow; gallons remaining never decrease.
Flow Meter / Turbine Sensor Fault
E07
Display shows E07 and the unit reports abnormal high flow or continuous flow even when no water is being used.
False High-Flow / Leak Detection Fault
E08
Display shows E08 and the unit will not accept new settings or programming changes.
Programming / EEPROM Write Fault
E09
Display shows E09 and the unit indicates a salt or brine system problem; regeneration may be skipped.
Brine System Fault (Low Salt / No Brine Draw Detection)
E10
Display shows E10 and the unit reports an internal temperature or overload condition; regeneration may be aborted.
Control Board Overheat / Overcurrent Fault
Symptom
Brine tank water level is abnormally high and does not drop during regeneration.
Brine Tank Overfill / No Brine Draw
Symptom
Brine tank water level is always very low or completely dry, and salt does not dissolve.
No Brine Refill
Symptom
Display is on but very dim or flickers; sometimes resets randomly.
Unstable Low-Voltage Supply
Symptom
Drain line discharges an unusually large amount of water or splashes violently during regeneration.
Excessive Drain Flow
Symptom
Drain line discharges very little or no water during regeneration.
Restricted Drain Flow
Symptom
No water flow to the house when the Tier1 softener is in service; water returns when placed in bypass.
Blocked Control Valve / Service Port Obstruction
Symptom
Softener appears dead: no display, no lights, and no response from buttons.
No Power to Control Head
Symptom
Softener causes noticeable pressure drop or low water flow in the home when in service.
Flow Restriction Through Softener
Symptom
Softener continuously drains water to the drain line even when not regenerating.
Valve Not Returning to Service / Continuous Drain
Symptom
Softener control head or plumbing sweats heavily, causing water on the floor that looks like a leak.
Condensation on Cold Surfaces
Symptom
Softener cycles at the wrong time of day (e.g., regenerates in the afternoon instead of at night).
Clock / Time-of-Day Misconfiguration
Symptom
Softener emits a plastic or electrical burning smell from the control head.
Overheating Electrical Component
Symptom
Softener emits a strong musty or rotten-egg odor from the brine tank.
Biological Growth in Brine Tank
Symptom
Softener is not using any salt; salt level in the Tier1 brine tank never goes down and water remains hard.
No Brine Draw / No Salt Usage
Symptom
Softener is stuck in regeneration and does not return to service automatically.
Regeneration Stuck / Cycle Not Advancing
Symptom
Softener leaks water around the control head where it mounts to the mineral tank.
Control Head to Tank Seal Leak
Symptom
Softener makes loud clicking or grinding noises during regeneration.
Drive Gear / Cam Noise
Symptom
Softener occasionally allows hard water through during high-demand periods but is otherwise soft.
Peak Flow Bypass / Undersized System
Symptom
Softener occasionally draws air into the plumbing, causing sputtering faucets after regeneration.
Air Intrusion from Brine System
Symptom
Softener occasionally overflows brine tank only during very cold or very hot weather.
Temperature-Related Brine System Malfunction
Symptom
Tier1 softener does not regenerate automatically; only regenerates when manually started.
No Automatic Regeneration
Symptom
Tier1 softener regenerates too frequently, wasting salt and water.
Over-Regeneration / Incorrect Programming
Symptom
Water has a salty taste after regeneration.
Excess Brine Carryover
Symptom
Water is rusty or discolored after regeneration cycles.
Iron Discharge / Fouled Resin
Symptom
Water leaks from the Tier1 brine tank onto the floor.
Brine Tank Leak
Symptom
Water remains hard even though the Tier1 softener appears to regenerate normally.
Insufficient Softening Capacity / Resin or Programming Issue
