E1
Garbage disposal will not power on; red reset button on bottom is not tripped; wall switch has power; some models show E1 on a connected sink control module or smart switch.
Line Power Supply Fault
E2
Garbage disposal hums but does not spin; some smart sink switch modules or under-sink control boxes may display E2 indicating a locked rotor or overload condition.
Rotor Jam / Locked Motor
E3
Disposal trips the internal reset button frequently or shuts off shortly after starting; some smart controls may show E3 for repeated overload trips.
Overload / Overcurrent Protection Trip
E4
Disposal runs but water backs up into sink; some smart sink control kits may show E4 indicating drain restriction or discharge fault.
Discharge / Drain Obstruction
E5
Disposal stops unexpectedly during operation and will not restart until cooled; some smart modules may show E5 for thermal overload trip.
Thermal Overload / Overheating
E6
Disposal runs but makes a loud electrical buzzing or burning smell; some smart controls may show E6 indicating motor fault.
Motor Winding Failure
E7
Disposal runs but is extremely noisy with metal-on-metal grinding or rattling; some smart modules may show E7 for mechanical imbalance or loose components.
Loose or Damaged Impeller / Turntable
E8
Disposal runs but water leaks from the bottom motor housing; some smart controls may show E8 for internal seal failure.
Main Shaft Seal Failure
E9
Disposal will not start from wireless or touchpad control, but runs when wired directly; some smart sink control kits show E9 for control communication failure.
Smart Control / Remote Switch Communication Fault
Symptom
Disposal causes the kitchen circuit breaker to trip immediately when switched on.
Short Circuit / Ground Fault in Disposal or Wiring
Symptom
Disposal does not respond to wireless or air-switch button, but works when wall switch is used (on dual-control setups).
Auxiliary Switch / Air Switch Failure
Symptom
Disposal emits a burning rubber or hot electrical smell during or after use.
Overheating Motor or Friction on Non-Food Item
Symptom
Disposal emits a strong rotten or sewer-like odor from the sink opening.
Organic Buildup / Biofilm in Grinding Chamber and Drain
Symptom
Disposal is extremely loud compared to when it was new, with a harsh grinding sound even when empty.
Worn Grinding Components / Cavitation Noise
Symptom
Disposal is very difficult to turn manually with an Allen wrench even with power off.
Seized Bearings or Severe Internal Corrosion
Symptom
Disposal leaks from the side discharge elbow where it connects to the drain pipe.
Discharge Elbow / Tailpiece Leak
Symptom
Disposal leaks from the side where the dishwasher drain hose connects.
Dishwasher Inlet Connection Leak
Symptom
Disposal leaks from the very bottom of the unit, even when not running, especially when sink is full.
Internal Housing / Shaft Seal Leak

Bearing or Bushing Wear
Symptom
Disposal makes a humming noise when switched on but the grinding plate does not turn.
Jammed Rotor / Stalled Impeller
Symptom
Disposal motor stops abruptly when grinding certain foods and must be reset frequently.
Overload Trip Due to Improper Use
Symptom
Disposal runs but dishwasher does not drain, and water backs up into the dishwasher.
Blocked Dishwasher Inlet or Knockout Plug Left In
Symptom
Disposal runs but makes loud rattling, clanking, or grinding noises not typical of normal operation.
Foreign Object in Grinding Chamber
Symptom
Disposal runs but occasionally seizes or slows dramatically, then recovers.
Intermittent Mechanical Binding
Symptom
Disposal runs but occasionally throws water and debris up past the splash guard.
Improper Loading / Worn Splash Guard
Symptom
Disposal runs but water and ground food back up into the dishwasher.
Backflow from Disposal into Dishwasher
Symptom
Disposal runs but water drains very slowly from the sink, even after clearing visible debris.
Partial Drain Line Obstruction
Symptom
Disposal runs but water leaks from around the sink flange where the unit mounts to the sink.

Symptom
Disposal vibrates excessively and causes the sink or countertop to shake during operation.
Imbalanced Grinding Assembly / Loose Mount
Symptom
